SCF Sovcomflot partnership with SUEK

Sovcomflot (SCF) Group, Russia’s largest shipping company, agreed the formation of a strategic partnership with Russia’s major coal exporter “SUEK” (Siberian Coal Energy Company).

The partnership was announced by SCF Sovcomflot CEO, Sergey Frank, on the 14th July 2009 at the 8th Sovcomflot Business Partners Conference in St. Petersburg.

The inaugural step was the recent finalization of a long term time-charter contract for the ice-class panamax bulk carrier “SCF SUEK”, recently acquired by Sovcomflot (SCF) Group.

The vessel will service SUEK’s new coal export terminal in the Bay of Muchke near Vanino, utilizing the Sovcomflot (SCF) Group’s technical management and crewing expertise to cope with the harsh environment conditions of Russia’s far East.

This partnership continues SCF Sovcomflot’s strategy of providing long term commitments to its customers for safe and reliable energy transportation.

Sovcomflot (SCF) Group is Russia’s leading shipping company, and among the top five tanker companies in the world. Its fleet comprises 137 vessels of 9.6 million tonnes (dwt) in total, and the shipbuilding portfolio includes 23 ships of the aggregate deadweight of 2.1 million tonnes (dwt). The average age of vessel in the tanker fleet is less than six years.
Sovcomflot (SCF) Group holds the top position in the product carrier, Aframax tanker and ice-class shuttle-tanker market segments, and is the leading ice-class tanker operator for the transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG). These market segments are the most in demand for Russia’s foreign trade.
