Zvezdochka Shipyard set to manufacture more propulsion units for vessels built in Russia

At the meeting on socioeconomic development in Arkhangelsk Region chaired by Vladimir Putin, Vladimir Nikitin, Director of Ship Repair Center ‘Zvezdochka’, said the company is set to substitute propulsion units produced by foreign manufacturers with those produced by ‘Zvezdochka’. According to the meeting transcript, the shipyard has set up production of mechanical units and is going to produce electrical ones.

«We will set up production of 9 MW propulsion units the next year”, he said.

According to Vladimir Nikitin, all icebreakers being built in Russia are equipped with imported propulsion units.

“Our share in production of propulsion units for civil ships is 10% of the total unit cost (we produce only propulsive screws), or up to 15% with some components. However, our localization can reach 60% today”, the shipyard’s Director said.

Zvezdochka has asked Vladimir Putin for assistance in securing order for construction of propulsion units for gas carriers being built under Yamal LNG project.

Ship Repair Center ‘Zvezdochka’ (Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Region) specializes in shipbuilding and ship repair, manufacture of propulsive screws. The company is a member of the United Shipbuilding Corporation.
