Maersk Line update Congestion Surcharge to/from the US

On April 22, 2014 Maersk Line issued an update on our Congestion Surcharge (CON) with scope of World to/from the US.

The CON was first announced on August 31, 2012 soon after Maersk Line had published the surcharge in our World to/from U.S. Tariff. This was published to address the potential risk of significantly increased port congestion as result of any labor related issues on the US East and Gulf coasts. This initial filing was, and remains, applicable to all ports in the United States and also included cargo destined for the US transiting through gateways in Canada and Mexico.

The CON can be applied to congestion scenarios at all US ports and inland locations. The applicability of the Congestion Surcharge will continue to be assessed over the period leading up to and following the congestion period and will be applied to shipments arriving at all US ports and inland locations (imports and exports) where the congestion has impacted the carrier’s operations.

The current filed amounts of the CON are as follows and are applicable to both dry and reefer shipments:
USD 800 per 20’ container for all equipment types
USD 1000 per 40’ dry, reefer, flat, open-top and tank
USD 1125 per 40’ high cube dry and high cube reefer
USD 1266 per 40’ pallet wide and 45’ high cube dry
