Salvage vessel Spasatel Zaborshchikov delivered to Russia’s State Marine Rescue Service

Third serial multipurpose salvage vessel of project MPSV07 Spasatel Zaborshchikov built by Nevsky Shipyard was delivered to Russia’s State Marine Rescue Service  on June 20, 2014. The vessel is getting ready to set off for her home port Vladivostok, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping says in its press release.

The construction was carried out under the state contract for the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency and the Direction of State Contractor of Marine Transport Development Programmes. The project was developed by Marine Engineering Bureau CJSC. RS classification: КМ✪ Arc5 [1] AUT1-ICS OMBO FF3WS DYNPOS-2 EPP Salvage ship.

Major characteristics:  length overall – 73.0 m; waterline beam – 15.5 m; maximum draught – 5.1 m; deadweight with maximum draught – 1,171 t; power - 2х2000 KW; speed - 15 knots.

The MPSV07 series vessels are designed for search and salvage of stricken ships, to conduct rescue and evacuation of people; refloating of stranded ships, pumping of water from flooded compartments, for towing of stricken vessels to shelter, for sea towing of vessels and floating facilities and structures in ice and open water, assistance to vessels and rescue operations in ice conditions and open water. The salvage ships features firefighting capabilities to extinguish fires on floating and onshore facilities, accessible from the sea. 

The MPSV07 ships can operate as a Diving Support Vessel to assist underwater diving works at depths 60 meters, as well as for deep diving operations at depths up to 300 m; to respond to emergency oil spills and fire; inspection and cleaning of underwater hulls of ships, floating and shore facilities; for survey of seabed and sunken vessels at depths of 1,000 m.

The vessel was named after the veteran of Russia’s sea rescue service, Mikhail Zaborshchikov, participant of over 200 rescue and lifting operations.

Two vessels of project MPSV07 built in 2013 are in operation today – Spasatel Karev (registered in Saint-Petersburg) and Spasatel Kavdeykin (registered in Murmansk).
