Neele-Vat to extend distribution centre on the Maasvlakte
The Rotterdam logistics service provider Neele-Vat Logistic has around 150,000 m2 of its own storage space, about 90% of which is in Rotterdam’s port complex. It is seeking to expand in the storage and handling of dangerous goods, the company said in its press release.
Neele-Vat has just been granted the necessary permits to extend the existing distribution centre on the Maasvlakte by 12,000 square metres for the storage of these goods. According to director Ron Neele, that is a massive growth market. Companies in different parts of the Netherlands have to invest heavily as a result of increasingly stringent requirements. ‘Most of them don’t know where to start, so they have to look for a specialised logistics service provider. Last year, for instance, we attracted two big clients who were desperate for storage space.’
A second reason for the increasing demand for storage space for dangerous goods in the Rotterdam port area is the slow shift of petrochemical production to the Middle East. As a result, more chemical cargo has to be imported and this requires extra storage space. Together, these two developments give Neele so much confidence in the expansion on the Maasvlakte that it is being carried out completely ‘on spec’, that is to say without any contracts with clients.
