Maersk Line wins Supply Chain Sustainability award at the GPCA Conference
On May 4, 2016, Maersk Line was recognised for Supply Chain Sustainability during the first Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) Supply Chain Excellence Awards.
Maersk Line bagged the award in the Sustainability category for signing the Carbon Pact with Borouge, an innovative petrochemical company based in the UAE. The Carbon Pact signifies the two companies’ commitment in creating transparency on the environmental impact of Borouge’s supply chain and reducing Borouge’s CO2 emissions from its ocean transportation with Maersk Line by 15 percent from 2016 to 2020.
“As it reflects our commitment to improve the sustainability performance and strengthen our environmental stewardship, the Carbon Pact helps Borouge to significantly reduce the CO2 emissions from transportation of our products and yet contribute to the growth targets set for our business,” says Ahmed Al Shamsi, Borouge's Senior Vice President – Supply Chain Management.
Maersk Line's Carbon Pact with Borouge is the first sustainability agreement signed in the Middle East, making the GPCA Supply Chain Sustainability award truly an honour for Maersk Line.
