Russian Railways OJSC and Federal Antimonopoly Service of the Russian Federation have signed an agreement on joint efforts to establish a Freight Market Council for efficient cooperation of all the players. The document has been signed by Russian Railways President Oleg Belozerov and Head of FAS Igor Artemiev.

“We consider establishment of such a council to be a significant step. It will be a ground where all market players can discuss mid-term and long-term prospects without violation of the competition legislation and with more precise framing of requirements and possibilities”, said Oleg Belozerov adding that a joint working group will be set up for implementation of the agreement.

“The council will feature dozens of organizations including shippers, operators, manufacturers of equipment, authorities etc.”, said Igor Artemiev. According to him, establishment of this Council will make the railway market more transparent for a customer and help elaborate well-balanced solutions in the interests of all the stakeholders.

The Council activities are supposed to enhance the competitiveness and efficiency of the railway transport, ensure favourable conditions for attraction of investments and help all the market players arrive to consensus on development of regulations.
