Rosmorport’s Kaliningrad Department participates in international exercises on search and rescue of people in the Baltic Sea
On 28 July 2016, Kaliningrad Department of Rosmorport’s North-Western Basin Branch took part in the international exercises in search and rescue of people in the Baltic Sea, Rosmorport says in a press release.
According to the legend of the exercises, there was held an operation on search and rescue of “RYBAK” vessel (flag of the Republic of Lithuania) proceeding from Klaipeda (Lithuania) to Gdynia (Poland) with 12 crew members on board, where a fire started. Due to the fault, communication means on board of the vessel did not function. After the start of conventional fire two crew members were in water, seven people were missing and three injured, and the vessel lost speed.
Kapitan Belyaev crew boat participated from the North-Western Basin Branch Kaliningrad Department, and with the help of the vessel one of the conditional victims was found and taken on board.
According to the results of the exercises, in which forces and technical means of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Poland and the Republic of Lithuania were involved, all tasks were successfully addressed, the vessel in distress was promptly found and rescue of all crew members was ensured.
Interaction of maritime rescue and co-ordination centers, and search and rescue facilities of the three countries in search and rescue operations were again worked out in practice.
