Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg handled 5.1 mln t of cargo in Jan-Sep'17, down 8% Y-o-Y

Within the period of January – September 2017 the turnover of JSC Sea Port of St. Petersburg (SPSP, a company of UCL Holding) amounted to 5.1 million tons of cargo, which is 8% less than for the same period of last year.

Mainly the decrease of volume is related to removal of ore from the range of cargo turnover of the company, which previously accounted for over 10% of SPSP’s turnover. The cargo flow of ore was redirected to one of the other companies of stevedoring division of UCL Holding.

Handling of general cargoes at SPSP remained at the same level as last year – 4.8 million tons.
2.7 million tons of those are ferrous metals, which is 23% more than for the same period of 2016; non-ferrous metals – 1.1 million tons, scrap metal – 415 thousand tons, which is 7% and 26% less than previous year respectively.

Positive dynamics was demonstrated by wooden pellets – handling of this cargo increased by some 45% due to completion of the investment project of shed storage construction.

Container turnover of SPSP amounted to 25 551 TEUs (191 thousand tons), which is 1.5 times more than a year earlier. Positive result was determined by development of container operations by our company, which renders wide range of additional services besides the standard set of operations.

Within the covered period the berths of SPSP were busy handling project cargoes, oversized and overweight cargoes, agricultural cargoes, rolling cargoes and other cargo flows with multidirectional dynamics which corresponds to the existing conditions in the respective product markets.

All around, for the 9 months of this year the export cargo flows of SPSP exceeded 4.8 million tons, which is 5.7% more than for the similar period of 2016. The share of export in the total cargo turnover is now 94.5% against 5.5% of import.

JSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” (a member of UCL Port – stevedoring division of the international transportation group UCL Holding) – is the largest provider of cargo handling services for all types of dry cargoes in the Greater Port of Saint-Petersburg.  It operates several state-of-the-art multi-purpose terminals for handling of general and bulk cargoes, as well as specialized terminals for ro-ro and container cargoes.
