Big Port of St. Petersburg imposes ice restrictions in the harbour effective as of March 7, 2018
The Big Port of St. Petersburg Harbourmaster office issued an ice class guidance imposing some restrictions on shipping at the harbour. Due to deterioration of ice situation, negative air temperatures and the ice forecast, the restrictions are effective as from midnight (UTC+3), March 7, 2018 (with ice thickness of 15-30 cm) in the port basin and on access channels.
According to the order of harbourmaster Alexander Volkov, vessels without ice class and ATB units are banned from entering the harbour; vessels of Ice1 are allowed to sail in and out the port only under the guidance of the icebreaker; vessels of category Ice2 and above are allowed to sail in ice under the guidance of the icebreaker or independently on the permission and recommendations of the icebreaker.
