Transneft puts into operation petroleum products pipelines under its Yug project
Transneft says it has put into operation petroleum products pipelines under its Yug project: Volgograd refinery – Tinguta – Tikhoretsk – Novorossiysk.
The Yug project implementation helped create infrastructure for transporting diesel (up to 6 mln tonnes a year) by pipelines in the direction of the Russian port Novorossiysk. PPP were put into operation upon having successfully passed all tests under maximum loads using essential additives and other technical measures.
The project’s key advantage is its ability to receive extra diesel from rail tankers at the railway station Tinguta in the Volgograd region, thus ensuring pipeline transportation of petroleum products from the refineries which are not directly hooked up to the system of oil trunk pipelines. The reception of diesel from rail tankers is planned at PEPS Tinguta where a railway unloading facility and an 80,000 m3 tank farm will be commissioned.
Transneft started filling the petroleum products pipelines of the Yug project in November 2017. Diesel transportation from Volgograd refinery to Port Novorossiysk in the amount of some 250 thousand tonnes per month started in early December 2017. By the end of the year the volumes delivered are expected to increase to 4 million tonnes.
The Yug project launch will provide an opportunity for oil companies to optimize their logistical costs due to the use of pipeline transport and will also relieve the North Caucasus Railroad for passenger services.
Brief project description:
Building a supply pipeline from the refinery: 55.6 km
Building the linear portion: 498.4 km
Oil pipelines adapted to petroleum products pumping: 244 km
Construction of new pump stations: 2
Revamping of the existing pump stations: 2
Total capacity of tank farms: 250 thou m3
The Yug project is aimed at ensuring the transportation of diesel fuel over pipelines on the section Samara – Volgograd – Tikhoretsk – Novorossiysk with deliveries to Port Novorossiysk. The implementation of the Yug investment project is included into the Transneft Long-Term Development Program till 2020.
