North-Western Shipping Company carried 1.2 million tonnes of cargo in 1Q’2019
In the first quarter of 2019, vessels of North-Western Shipping Company (NWSC, a company of UCL Holding) carried 1.2 million tonnes of cargo, which is similar to the result in the same period of 2018, the company says in a press release.
In the reporting period, transportation of grain cargo totaled 0.32 million tonnes, ferrous metal – 0.24 million tonnes, chemical and mineral fertilizers – 0.23 million tonnes, timber – 0.1 million tonnes, coal and non-ferrous metal – 0.08 million tonnes each.
Exports accounted for the bulk of shipments – over 0.7 million tonnes (62.0%) including grain, timber, ferrous and non-ferrous metal, coal, chemical and mineral fertilizers. Some cargoes demonstrated a growth: transportation of non-ferrous metal surged over 3.6 times to 0.05 million tonnes due to increased number of voyages from the port of Saint-Petersburg and southern ports of Russia, transportation of ferrous metal increased by 15% to 0.2 million tonnes driven by transportation of slabs from the port of Novorossiysk.
Transportation between foreign ports grew by 32% to 0.45 million tonnes (38% of the total volume). The result should be attributed to increased amount of chemical and mineral fertilizers (+84% to 0.15 million tonnes) delivered from Riga and Klaipeda to the Polish ports of Szczecin, Police and Gdansk as well as to almost double growth (to 0.09 million tonnes) of paperwood transportation from the ports of Latvia and Estonia to the ports of Sweden and transportation of sawn timber from Riga to the Great Britain.
In the reporting period, imports accounted for 1.0% of the total volume.
No domestic shipments have been performed in the reporting period.
New vessels of NWSC – 10 vessels of Project DCV36 (lead ship – “Amethyst”) and 7 vessels of Project RSD49 “Neva-Leader” – carried over 353,000 tonnes of cargo (30% of the total volume).
