In January-November 2019, the port of Ventspils (Latvia) handled 19.471 million tonnes of cargo (+4%, year-on-year), the port authority told IAA PortNews.
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 2% to 9.615 million tonnes, dry bulk cargo – grew by 17% to 7.549 million tonnes while transshipment of general cargo fell by 7% to 2.307 million tonnes.
The port’s container throughput totaled 275 TEUs having plunged by 87%, year-on-year. Turnover of passengers grew by 6% to 217,141. The number of ship calls totaled 1,410 units, slightly down, year-on-year.
Ventspils port is located near Venta river. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and Ro-Ro trailers. In 2018, the port handled 20.3 million tonnes of cargo.
