Construction of new port in Lomonosov (Leningrad region) to commence Nov 7

On the 7th of November, it is planned to begin construction of new seaport in Lomonosov (Leningrad region), dp.ru reports. The information is confirmed by Yantar company established in 2001 specially for the project implementation. Earlier the beginning was scheduled for 2003 but it was postponed several times due to search of investor. The project’s investor – MSC – is the world’s second largest company in terms of container transportation volumes.

The project will also be financed by EBRD. The project primary contractor is German concern Hochtief. The construction is to be finished in 3 years. Preliminary investments are to total EUR 300 million needed for development of the terminal’s territory, a source Yantar informs. Besides, some EUR 150 million is needed for dredging and other works including reclamation of 65 hectares. The port is to specialize in container transshipment. Its design capacity is 1 million TEU per year. One of the berths will be used for handling ro-ro cargo. It will be able to handle up to 300,000 cars per year.
