Throughput of port Kavkaz down 9.9% in Jan-Oct 07, y-o-y

In January-October 2007, throughput of port Kavkaz fell by 9.89%, year-on-year, to 5.390.48 million tonnes, PortNews IAA learnt from Taman branch of RosMorPort FSUE. In the reported period, transshipment of export cargo totaled 3.378.06 million tonnes (2.6-fold increase against January-October 2006). Transshipment of import cargo grew by 16.11% to 842,420 tonnes. In the reported period the port handled 97,440 tonnes of fertilizers and 991,960 tonnes of general cargo. Transshipment of oil products amounted to 3.138.77 million tonnes. Off-harbor transshipment fell 3.4 times to 1.170.0 million tonnes. In the 10-month period the port handled 1,940 vessels against 2,007 vessels in the previous year.

Port Kavkaz is situated at the border of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov at Kerch Strait from the side of Russia. The port is ice-free, so it is able to handle both river vessels (draft of up to 5 meters) and sea vessels (off-harbor handling of vessels with a draft of up to 11 meters). The territory of the port is crossed by a 2,600-meter long railway line. The port handles loose cargo, as well as general cargo and timber.
