Georgia's Batumi Sea Port has handed the operation and management of the Batumi Container Terminal to a subsidiary of Philippine-based International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI), Batumi International Container Terminal LLC (BICT).
The container terminal handover also includes the rail ferry terminal facilities and the 181-meter general cargo berth, Berth 6. This berth caters to the receiving and loading to an export vessel of metal scraps coming from Georgia and her neighbouring countries.
BICT is drawing up plans and programs to refurbish the two portal cranes at Berth and is also looking into the possibility of handling container vessels using mobile cranes as well as ro-ro vessels.
