In October 2007, the port of Aktau (Kazakhstan) handled 925,019 tonnes of oil and general cargo, the port’s press center reports. Transshipment of oil totaled 760,930, metal goods – 104,544 tonnes, grain – 20,630 tonnes, ferry cargo – 23,698 tonnes, other cargo – 15,217 tonnes.
The port of Aktau is located at the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea. It is the only seaport of Kazakhstan to serve international transportation of dry cargo, oil and oil products. The port works all-the-year-round. The port may accept vessels with length of up to 150 meters and breadth of up to 20 meters, with draft not exceeding 6.2 meters. Seven vessels may be handled simultaneously. There are 2 cargo districts in the port – dry cargo district and oil cargo district.
