He said the project has been proposed several years ago because of the need of Bais for a roll-on, roll-off facility. The city is one of the gateways in the northern part of Negros in crossing Tañon Strait to Cebu .
Villanueva said the project had been approved by the PPA national office in Manila , after it conducted an on-site survey of the area recently.
He added the port facility will boost the economic activity in Bais and its neighboring municipalities, and even other local government units in Negros Occidental.
The PPA will manage the port facility while the city will support its operation.
