Throughput of Ventspils port up 7%, in Jan-Oct 07, y-o-y

In January-October, 2007, the port Ventspils handled 25.992 million tonnes of cargo (+7%, or + 1.744 million tonnes, year-on-year), RZD-Partner reports. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo totaled 16.613 million tonnes (+9.3%) the majority of which falls on diesel fuel. Transshipment of dry cargo totaled 7.238 million tonnes (+4%, year-on-year). Transshipment of coal grew over 2-fold to 3.483 million tonnes. However, transshipment of Byelorussian mineral fertilizers continues to fall. In the reported period it toteled 2.742 million tonnes (-18%, year-on-year). The majority of this type of cargo was redirected to Lithuanian port of Klaipeda as it has lower port charges. Transshipment of general cargo amounted to 2.141 million tonnes (+2.7%). In 2006, the port handled 29.1 million tonnes (-0.8%).
