In January-October, 2007, the port of Riga handled 24.45 million tonnes of cargo (-1.1%, year-on-year), the port informs according to RZD-Partner. In the reported period, transshipment of loose cargo totaled 12.509 million tonnes (-6.3%). Transshipment of coal fell by 11.2% to 8.35 million tonnes. Transshipment of mineral fertilizers grew by 44.3% to 1.577 million tonnes. In the reported period the port handled 4.786 million tonnes of general cargo (+13.3%) including 2.557 million tonnes of timber (+1.7%) and 1.484 million tonnes of containerized cargo (+16.2%).
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo amounted to 4.156 million tonnes (+0.9%) including 4.123 million tonnes of oil products (+1.4%). The port attributes the fall to restructuring of LaCon which decreased coal transshipment and increased metal handling.
In 2006, the port of Riga handled 25.358 million tonnes of cargo (+3.8%).
