Emirates Shipping plans to double its container capacity in 2 years

Emirates Shipping Line, one of the fastest growing shipping operators, in the region, said it would be doubling its container capacity in two years.
Registered in Dubai Maritime City and commercially headquartered in Dubai and Hong Kong, the company currently operates 13 ships with a total capacity of 30,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).
Vikas M Khan, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Shipping Line, said within the past 16 months of its inception, the company has made its mark by recording 30 per cent growth. "For me, increasing the size of our operation is not the goal. We have a long-term goal, and customer satisfaction is central to that goal," he said.
Emirates Shipping Line, which was launched in January 2006, has been nominated for three coveted industry awards during October 2007. Khan, who started his career in container shipping with Norasia Line in 1987 in the UAE, launched the company along with private investors with the aim of setting up a quality based new longhaul container shipping company. Managed by selected professionals, the company is able to react rapidly to market conditions.
In October 2006, the company won the Best Emerging Company award in the Asia Logistics Awards of Lloyds FTB Asia. In November 2006, the company won the Best Emerging Company Award in Lloyds List Maritime Asia.
Soon after the company's inception in 2006, Emirates Shipping Line has achieved solid business growth with eight services launched in 12 months providing a growth rate faster than the market and a widespread network spanning over 40 countries.
"We see an undeniable growth in the years ahead for the entire region in the Middle East, India and China," said Mohamed El Alfy, Senior Vice-President - Middle East, Africa and Mediterranean Region of Emirates Shipping Line."
"This region is also the core part of Emirates Shipping Line's strategy. Since our inception, we have launched 3 long haul weekly services focused on this area while continuing to review new opportunities in this area," Mohamed El Alfy added. "As around 90 per cent of the world's trade is transported via shipping, our outlook for this part of the world continues to remain robust and optimistic."
The Line's Senior Vice-President of Marketing, Jamshed Safdar expressed gratification to the award nominations and commented, "Prior to the 3 award nominations this year, we have already won the Best Emerging Company in both Asia Logistics Awards held in Singapore and the Lloyd's List Maritime Asia Awards held in Kuala Lumpur.
The awards are testament of our customers' recognition to Emirates Shipping Line's high quality services in providing exceptional customer value, which aligns with our long-term commitment of the Line's vision and standing."
Taking heed of the growing momentum of the booming maritime trade in the Middle East, Emirates Shipping Line will be sponsoring the Seatrade Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Award 2007 in the "Ship Finance Award" category to be held in November in Dubai.
This category award is designed to celebrate and reward excellence and innovation in the maritime sector across the region.
"The sponsorship forms part of the company's strategy in supporting the accolades in the region's shipping community. It also help strengthening our presence in the industry," said Safdar.
