SIPG plans raising mid-Yangtze Jiujiang port capacity to 3 million TEU

Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG), together with the Jiujiang Port Group, is to develop port of Jiujiang, on the Yangtze in central China to a three million TEU throughput by 2020, Xinhua reported.
They plan eight new berths by 2010, raising the port's capacity to 600,000 TEU or 6 million tons. The first phase project has a capacity of 1.97 million tons, comprising of two 300,000-TEU container terminals and two 5,000-ton bulk terminals at the Guanhu port area.
Apart from terminals, SIPG is also to build logistics facilities next to the harbour, said the report.
SIPG signed a deal with city government of Jiujiang in September to buy more than 70 per cent of the port, which is said to be a step in the group's expansion strategy along the Yangtze.
