Throughput of Vostochny port up 7.7% in Jan-Sep 07, y-o-y

In January-October 2007, Vostochny port handled 18.492.7 million tonnes of cargo (+7.76%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from Vostochny branch of RosMorPort FSUE. In the reported period, transshipment of general cargo totaled 2.804.0 million tonnes (+17.4% year-on-year) including 2.724 million tonnes of containerized cargo (+24.8%), 20,800 tonnes of scrap metal (a 3.2-fold increase). Transshipment of machines and equipment amounted to 1,600 tonnes (+27.3%), timber –274,400 tonnes (-13.9%), dry bulk cargo – 15.360.0   million tonnes (+6.4%) including 14.560.4 million tonnes of coal and coke (+6.4%) and 799,600 tonnes of mineral fertilizers (+10.4%). In the reported period the port handled 54,300 tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (in January-October 2006, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo was not carried out in January-October 2006).

Vostochny port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters, length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 15 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
