Around eight tonnes of fuel oil that leaked from a tanker that was split apart by a storm in the Kerch Strait on Sunday have been cleaned up, the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s southern regional centre told Itar-Tass on Friday.
On Friday morning rescue works to clean up the oil spill that stretches over 50 kilometres resumed, the centre’s official said.
Earlier Russian environmental watchdog deputy chief Oleg Mitvol said as a result of the accident around 10,000 tones of oil mixed with seaweeds and sand might be found on the coast of the Kerch Strait.
