HK port container traffic rises slightly in Oct

Hong Kong port, one of the major international ports in the world, handled 2.04 million 20-foot boxes in October, up 0.4% from the same period of last year, according to preliminary data from the Port Development Council.
The Hong Kong port is a good indicator of the prosperity and economic growth of Hong Kong and South China, as approximately 80% of its container traffic is related to South China. Being a major hub in the global supply chain, it operates nearly 80 international shipping lines with 500 container liner services per week to over 500 destinations worldwide.
As a matter of fact, the port traffic mainly comprises Chinese-made products, which are sent there for redistribution. In line, Hong Kong authorities plan to build more road and rail links to China, in order to boost its logistics industry.
Due to the increasing sea-freight demand boosted by China's booming trade, global logistics operators are aiming to establish supply chains into the country. Unexceptionally, Hong Kong officials are designing effective logistics and supply chain strategy into China as well as to compete with mainland major ports such as Shanghai and Shenzhen.
