Second Stevedoring Company (Sea Port of St. Petersburg) suspends the strike

The Strike Committee of Second Stevedoring Company (Sea Port of St. Petersburg) has decided to suspend the strike, Aleksandr Moiseyenko, chairman of the port dockers’ committee has announced today according to PRIME-TASS.

“We do not agree with the Court’s ruling as regards termination of the unlimited strike of First Stevedoring Company till December 14, 2007 and we are going to appeal against it,” Mr. Moiseenko said. According to him, the only company to continue the strike in the port of St. Petersburg is Forth Stevedoring Company.

The strike of dockers of First Stevedoring Company (part of Sea Port of St. Petersburg) was terminated under the Court’s decision dated November 16. According to Aleksandr Moiseyenko, “the Court’s decision as regards the claim of the port’s administration is based on non-fulfillment of minimal volume of obligatory work.

As it was reported earlier, the strike started on November 13, at 08:00 a.m. (Moscow time) by the workers of First Stevedoring Company, Second Stevedoring Company and Forth Stevedoring Company of Morport OJSC under initiative of Russian Port Worker’s Trade Union. They demanded a 30-percent rise in tariffs and guaranteed wages.
