On November 19, 8.00, dockers of Second Stevedoring Company (Sea Port of St. Petersburg) resumed full-scale operation at their work places, press release of Sea Port of St. Petersburg reads referring to an official note received by its Administration.
Employees of First Stevedoring Company resumed their work on the night of the 16/17 in compliance with the ruling of St. Petersburg municipal Court. At the same time, the members of the grievance committee, which terminated its operation in view of failure to find mutually acceptable decision as regards settling of the collective employment dispute, did not appear at their work places (excluding 1 person). Thus, the members of the grievance committee of First Stevedoring Company violated failed to execute the order of the company’s Director and ignored the Court’s ruling. An investigation was initiated upon this fact.
Actually, only one of three companies – Forth Stevedoring Company CJSC – continues the strike.
As it was reported earlier, the strike started on November 13, at 08:00 a.m. (Moscow time) by the workers of First Stevedoring Company, Second Stevedoring Company and Forth Stevedoring Company of Morport OJSC under initiative of Russian Port Worker’s Trade Union. They demanded a 30-percent rise in tariffs and guaranteed wages.
St. Petersburg municipal Court banned the Docker’s Trade Union Committee of Sea Port of St. Petersburg and the Strike Committee of First Stevedoring Company from holding the strike.
On November 16, the Court invalidated the strike upon the Article 413 of the RF Labor Code. Invalidation was based on the refusal of the employees to handle dangerous goods, though they were included into the approved list of obligatory works.
