In January-October, 2007, stevedoring companies of Russian ports handled 376.46 million tonnes of cargo (+7.7%, year-on-year), press release of the Association of Russian Sea Ports reads according to Gudok.Ru. In the reported period, handling of dry cargo grew by 6.5% to 155 million tonnes, liquid bulk cargo – by 8.6% to 221.44 million tonnes.
Over 46% of total volume handled by Russian port complex falls on the ports of the North West of Russia. In the reported period they handled 174.45 million tonnes of cargo including 67.8 million tonnes of dry cargo and over 106.6 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo.
Stevedoring companies of the port of St. Petersburg handled 49.7 million tonnes of cargo (+10%, or +16 million tonnes, year-on-year), Murmansk – 21.3 million tonnes (-7%), Vyborg and Vysotsk – 20.6 million tonnes (+33%).
Throughput of the ports in Russia’s southern region grew by 1.5% (+2 million tonnes), year-on-year, to 135.8 million tonnes. Transshipment of fry cargo totaled 42.6 million tonnes (+8%), liquid bulk cargo – 93.1 million tonnes (-1.3%). The ports of Russia’s southern region account for 36% of total volume handled by Russian port complex.
According to the source, 70% of cargoes handled by Russian southern ports (or 95.4 million tonnes) fall on stevedoring companies of the port of Novorossiysk accounting for 53% of dry cargo and 78% of liquid bulk cargo. Over 12% of total regional throughput falls on the port of Tuapse. Throughput of the region’s leader – Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port JSC totaled 59.6 million tonnes (-4.2%) including 14.4 million tonnes of dry cargo (-1.8) and 45.2 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-5%).
Throughput of the Far Eastern port grew by 15% (or + 8.8 million tonnes) to 66.2 million tonnes of cargo, which makes 17.6% of the country’s total throughput. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo grew by 68% to 21.6 million tonnes. The growth should be attributed mainly to introduction of Exxon Neftegaz oil terminal in De-Castry. It was put into operation in late 2006 and in the reported period it handled 9.3 million tonnes of cargo.
