Container turnover of Russia’s north-western ports up 25.2% in Jan-Sep 07, y-o-y

In January-September 2007, container turnover of the ports of Russia’s North-Western Federal District grew by 25.2%, year-on-year, to 1.445.574 million TEU, RBC reports with reference to the materials of the IV international conference Freight-2007: Container Transportation in Russia and the Neighbouring States being held in St. Petersburg.

Big Port of St. Petersburg accounts for the largest volumes of container transportation – 1.245.426 million TEU (+21.3%, year-on-year), while container throughput of all ports of the Baltic states grew by 28.5% - to 545,857 TEU, in Finland – by 12.8% to 1.155.278 million TEU. There are four ports handling containers in the North-Western Federal District of Russia: Big Port of St. Petersburg, Commercial Seaport of Archangelsk, Commercial Seaport of Murmansk and Commercial Seaport of Kaliningrad.
