China to impose new controls on textile exports to Europe

The Ministry of Commerce has announced that eight categories of the textile product exports to Europe will have to obtain an export licence next year according to the memorandum of understanding on textile trade signed between China and EU, Xinhua reported.
New controls become effective from January 1 to December 31. Eight categories of products affected are T-shirts, sweaters, men's trousers, blouses, dresses, bras, bed sheets and linen yarn.
Manufacturers of these products must undergo a qualification process run by the China Chamber of Commerce for Textile Imports and Exports, the China National Textile and Apparel Council and the China Association of Foreign Invested Enterprises.
According to the new textile trade agreement signed between EU and China, the EU will cancel the quota on Chinese textile export.
