RF Transport Minister Igor Levitin has supported the project on construction of a deep-water seaport in Archangelsk, ITAR-TASS reports according to Gudok.Ru. According to the minister, Archangelsk needs a deep-water seaport but economic feasibility is necessary as well as the search of an investor.
“As of today, we do not see volumes to be handled by the new port,” Levitin said. According to Nikolai Kiseleov, Archangelsk Governor, the port is to be built in the dry bay of the White Sea, 50 kilometers from Archangelsk. Its estimated value is RUR 72 billion. Today the port charges in Archangelsk are the highest in Russia because of the low depths and the necessity of icebreaker piloting in winter. Construction of a deepwater area will competitiveness the port’s competitiveness.
