Hutchison Port Holdings opens first phase of a Mexican container terminal

Hutchison Port Holdings recently held a grand opening for the first phase of a container terminal expansion at the Port of Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico.
To be completed in three phases, the project calls for expanding the port from a single-berth to four-berth facility, enlarging a yard area and container freight station, and modernizing intermodal connections. Kansas City Southern de Mйxico S.A. de C.V. will move containers from the port to various Mexican cities and points in the southern United States.
As part of the Phase 1 expansion of the Lazaro Cardenas Terminal Portuaria de Contenedores (LCT) or container terminal, Hutchison Port Holdings — a port developer and operator — created a dedicated customs inspection area for railroad, truck and reefer cargo.
"LCT is now a world-class container terminal, outfitted with the latest handling equipment and capable of receiving the largest vessels afloat," said Hutchinson Port Holdings Group Managing Director John Meredith in a prepared statement.
