The beginning of the construction has started at the Bereket station. The 700 km long transport corridor will connect the communication systems of four states – Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran that will enable increasing the freight turnover among these states by several times, Turkmenistan.ru reports.
According to the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent who refers to the Ministry of railway transport, the route, along which trains from Uzen railway station on the territory of Kazakhstan will run through the Kyzyl-Kay to Bereket railway station and then till Etrek along western Turkmenistan near the oil and gas fields of east Caspian has been identified already. In Gurgan, the railway will connect with the network of the Iranian railways. The new route will be constructed in 4.5 years.
This corridor will be shorter by 600 km than the existing route via Beynau-Turkmenabat-Serakhs and will reduce the time of cargo-and-passenger waggonage traffic by two full days.
By the scale and significance, the railway under construction replicates the route that connected East and West for many centuries. As it was stressed in the Ministry, the freights will be transported to the countries of the Persian Gulf, to the Indian Ocean, and exported to Europe and other regions of the world along the recreated transport and trade route.
