In 2008, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) plans to increase its throughput by 25%, year-on-year, to 5 million tonnes, Ivo Kolinysh, head of the port’s marketing and investment department, says according to RZD-Partner. The increase is to be driven by reconstruction of the port’s railways, which will enable the port to handle up to 8 million tonnes per year. This year, the port is likely to handle some 4 million tonnes of cargo.
