Strike in the key Peruvian port of Callao ends

A nine-day strike by dock workers at the key Peruvian port of Callao has come to an end with many reports calling the walkout a 'costly' one.
Peru's Transportation Minister Veronica Zavala said that the strike cost an estimated $500 million in losses.
The United Union for Maritime and Port Workers of the port of Callao had called for strike action to demand higher pay.
According to AP news wires, the striking workers each have an average salary of some $13 for an eight hour workday.
Peru Cabinet chief Jorge del Castillo told local press that the port workers and private companies operating the port's facilities will begin government-brokered negotiations to increase salaries.
