Throughput of Vostochny port up 6.3% in Jan-Nov 07, y-o-y

In January-November 2007, Vostochny port handled 20.068.1 million tonnes of cargo (+6.3%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learnt from Vostochny branch of RosMorPort FSUE. In the reported period, the port handled 3.101.4 million tonnes of general cargo (+16.3%, year-on-year) including 3.015.9 million tonnes of containerized cargo (+23.4%). Transshipment of metal scrap fell 3.7-fold to 20,800 tonnes, machines and equipment – down 13.6% to 1,900 tonnes, timber – down 16.95% to 280,200 tonnes, dry bulk cargo – up 5.2% to 16.612.8 million tonnes including 15.723.8 million tonnes of coal and coke (+4.8%), 889,000 tonnes of mineral fertilizers (+18.7%). No loose cargo were handled in the port in January-November 2007. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo climbed 22.2% to 73,700 tonnes.

Vostochny port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters, length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 15 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
