"UACC is proud to announce that on December 1 it signed contracts with SLS Shipbuilding for eight, with an option for an additional two, newbuilding 45,000 dwt IMO II chemical tankers for delivery in 2011," the statement said.
United Arab was established in July by its parent company together with other strategic investors from GCC countries and is registered with the Dubai International Financial Centre.
"In addition to the future chemical fleet heralded by this new order, the aim of the company is to develop a fleet of medium to long range product tankers to serve the shipping needs of the expanding oil refining and chemical industries of its home region," the statement said.
