The Chennai container terminal on Friday crossed yet another landmark, handling the one-millionth Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) of containers.
It is the second port, after the Jawaharlal Nehru Port, to achieve this feat during the calendar year.
“This is for the first time that we have handled one-million TEUs. To be precise, we crossed 10,01,455 TEUs as against 8,29,307 TEUs last year. CMA-CGM Kepler has the distinction of carrying this container to Europe. Today, we handle 37 vessels that visit us from such major countries as China, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Europe and the United States,” DP World Chennai officials told The Hindu.
