Coal terminal modernization launched at Port Vostochny

The modernization of a coal-handling complex, the largest one in Russia's Far East, has been launched at Port Vostochny (eastern) in the city of Nakhodka, Itar-Tass reports.

The complex is now the main facility to handle Russia's coal intended for export to Pacific Rim countries. It reached the limit of its capacity long ago. Over the years of operation, the bulk of the equipment has exhausted its operational life and now runs at the limit.

An official in the harbour press service has told Itar-Tass that modernization will concern the railway car unloading system and the operation of the coal depot. All the work is to be done in 2008.
