Throughput of Vostochny Port OJSC to fall to 13.6 mln t in 2008 due to coal complex modernization

In 2008, throughput of Vostochny Port OJSC will fall to 13.6 million tonnes because of the modernization of the coal complex, the company’s press center reports according to news agency Rosfincom. According to the press release, it is necessary to renew the terminal’s technical facilities as part of the equipment is worn out.

“Having decreased the throughput today, we will be able to increase it many times in future,” Sergei Kushnarev, the company’s Director General, says. “It is very important today in view of active development of neighbor coal-handling ports (Vanino, Posiet) and an application to the Ministry of Economics and Development as regards creation of a SEZ on the basis of Vostochny Port.

 

The first phase of the Coal Terminal was put into operation on December 28, 1978. In 2004, the terminal exceeded its design capacity having handled 14.541 million tonnes of cargo. In 2006, the terminal had its record result having handled 15.14.8 million tonnes of coal.

Vostochny Port Joint Stock Company - is the largest stevedore company in the Far East of Russia. Its main specialization is coal handling using conveyer equipment.
Company consists of Specialized Coal and Universal Handling Terminals (PPK-1). It specializes in handling of general and such bulk cargoes as clinker, coal, coke, iron ore concentrate, timber and others. PPK-1 can work with metal, cellulose, argil and also with chemical, long-length and heavily-loaded cargoes.

The company’s major shareholder are the Federal Agency of Federal Property Management (23.47%) and Eastern Stevedoring holding corp. (75.07%).
