National Container Company has completed construction and assembly works at the first two berths of Baltic Container Terminal (No3 and No4) with a total length of up to 440 meters, the company’s press center reports. In 2008, NCC will start forming of a rear part of the container terminal as well as construction of building and facilities. The first phase is to be completed in December 2008. The terminal will be put into operation in January 2009.
In 2008, the first Konecranes STS (ship-to-shore) crane will be installed at the terminal, in 2009 the terminal will be fitted with 3 more cranes of the same type.
Container terminal of Ust-Luga will be the largest in Russia and at the shore of the Baltic Sea. “Implementation of such a project will fill the deficiency of Russian facilities and will support the growing flow of containers in the Baltic region as a whole and in Russia in particular,” NCC president Alena Ashurkova says.
