The bodies of four seamen were found aboard the transport vessel Vincent that burnt down off Sakhalin several days ago, a representative of the Sakhalin regional transport prosecutor’s office told Itar-Tass on Wednesday. They will be identified soon.
The prosecutor’s office said seamen Andrei Kolpakov, Yevgeny Zizyanov and Dmitry Iskakov, and cook Andrei Litvinov died of injuries in the fire.
Another three seamen are still staying at the Korsakov district central hospital.
There is no fuel leak threat aboard the burnt vessel, a source in the Sakhalin rescue department said. “Patrols were placed near the vessel if the fuel leaks, about 30 tons of diesel fuel are still kept in the ship’s tanks,” a duty officer of the Sakhalin rescue department said.
The general director of the South Korean company ITC Limited, which owns the vessel, said by phone that the company intends to tow the burnt vessel Vincent to the port of Pusan. However, only the transport prosecutor’s office, which instituted a criminal case over the fire aboard the trawler, can decide to tow the damaged vessel.
