In January 2008, the port of Tallinn handled 2.425.6 million tonnes of cargo (-38%, year-on-year and -4% as compared with December results), the port informs. Transshipment of import cargo 247,400 tonnes, export - 223,300 tonnes, transit – 1.9 million tonnes (-78%, year-on-year).
The most considerable decrease was in the sector of loose dry cargo and general cargo transshipment: - 77.6% to 255,000 tonnes and – 54.1% to 35,600 tonnes respectively. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 24.9% to 1.7 million tonnes.
In the reported period, transshipment of coal decreased to 29,400 tonnes (against 699,400 tonnes in Janury 2007), mineral fertilizers – down to 70,400 tonnes (against 202,800 tonnes in Janury 2007).
Container turnover grew by 9.5% to 13,350 TEU (100,100 tonnes). In the reported period the port handled 73,100 units of ro-ro cargo.
Passenger turnover grew by 11.4% to 359,600 people including 307,400 passengers carried by Tallinn-Helsinki line and 45,700 passengers – by Tallinn-Stokholm line.
The number of calls fell by 12.1% to 618 including 178 calls by cargo vessels.
