First 18,500-ton tanker built in Far East at the Amur plant
An 18,500-tonne chemical tanker has been built in Russia's Far East, the first such vessel built in the region, Itar-Tass reports. Ship builders at the Amur plant (Komsomolsk-on-Amur) launched it on Friday.
The length of the ocean transport vessel is 164 metres, the width is 23 metres and the side height is 13 metres. It is the first in the series of tankers to be built at the plant for the German corporation Hanseatic Llojd Schiffahrtt. The tanker is designed and built strictly in accordance with the Western standards and the German Llojd registration regulations. The special technology of welding at low temperatures developed and introduced by plant specialists allows ship builders to assemble sections in the open air even under severe winter conditions.
