Russian Railways shows daily volumes rate in Feb. up 11%, at 3.156 million tons

The average daily loading volumes of Russian Railways (RZD OJSC) in February this year rose by 11% in comparison with last year’s Feb. and by 12% as compared with recent January, up to 3.156 million tons, the RZD press service reports quoting the company’s president Vladimir Yakunin during a telephone conference on the results of February 2010.

"The first two months’ results show that the company took a strong start and ensures compliance with key performance indicators in accordance with the parameters approved by the board and the board of directors", Mr. Yakunin was quoted as saying.

"In February significant volumes of additional profitable cargoes were brought: forest (+11.9% of the plan), coke (+10%), metals (+19.4%), containerized cargoes (+10.1%), Vladimir Yakunin said.

In February, the RZD has had a higher, as compared with the past year, performance of the locomotives and the volumes of freight trains.

According to operational data, the passenger traffic on the RZD network in February dropped 13.2% from the last year’s numbers, including in the long-distance destination, by 5.6%, and suburban traffic by more than 30%.

The Russian Railways President said the company is currently preparing for the summer track renovation works.
