The announcement was made during a meeting of Boris Gryzlov with Georgy Boos, the Kaliningrad region’s Governor, representatives of local businesses, and customs authorities. Boris Gryzlov, assured the businessmen that he fully supported the position that had been voiced by regional businesses, on the SEZ in the Kaliningrad region. "The special economic zone (SEZ) should exist. This is consistent with the strategy of socio-economic development of Russia as a whole", Mr. Gryzlov was quoted as saying.
Special economic zone (SEZ) in the Kaliningrad region is the territory of the Kaliningrad region, which has had a special legal regime for the implementation of economic, industrial, investment and other activities. There is a special procedure established and applied in the SEZ for payment of the resident’s income tax and property tax (the first 6 years – a zero tax rate, the next 7 to 12 years - the rate property tax is reduced by 50% and the rate of corporate profit tax in the part of assessments to the regional budget is reduced by 50%). Other taxes and fees are paid in accordance with the current laws of the Russian Federation.
