In January-August 2008, the ports of Baltic states handled 82.292 million tonnes of cargo (-3.6%, year-on-year), Latvia’s Statistics Board informs according to RZD-Partner. In the reported period, Latvian ports accounted for 45.8% of cargo, Estonian – 25.8%, Lithuanian – 28.4%.
Throughput of Latvian ports grew by 740,100 tonnes (+2%, year-on-year) to 37.697 million tonnes; Lithuanian – by 4.778 million tonnes (+25.7%, year-on-year) to 23.401 million tonnes; Estonian – fell by 8.629 million tonnes (-28.9%, year-on-year) to 21.194 million tonnes.
The highest throughput was demonstrated by the port of Klaipeda, which increased by 16.2% against 18.24 million tonnes in January-August 2007. The second result is that of Ventspils. It handled 17.379 million tonnes (- 7.8%), the third – Tallinn – 17.089 million tonnes (-29.8%).
