Speaking in Tianjin, Mr Su said China hopes to move 10 million TEU against the 3.5 moved by rail last year. This, he said, counters rising fuel prices that has made trucking expensive, reported Bloomberg News. Container rail movement is expected to increase 30 per cent this year, the report said.
Beijing feels moving more by rail than truck will cut pollution and help shipping lines and manufacturers reduce fuel use following a 42 per cent increase in oil prices in the last 12 months.
