Ports of Azov-Don Basin decrease throughput by 4.2% to 12.2 mln t in Jan-Aug 08

In January-August, 2008, the ports of Azov-Don Basin decreased throughput by 4.2%, year-on-year, to 12.278.8 million tonnes, Azov-Don State Basin Department is cited by Gudok according to Interfax.

In the reported period, transshipment of sulfur fell by 41.1%, year-on-year, to 1.168.5 million tonnes, grain and oil crop – by 20.3% to 1.996.2 million tonnes, scrap metal – by 12.7% to 1.230.9 million tonnes.

In the 8-month period, transshipment of metal grew by 40.8%, year-on-year, to 224,900 tonnes, coal – by 9.9% to 1.134.7 million tonnes, cement (import from Turkey) – by 30.3 times to 1.124.1 million tonnes.
