Petersburg Committee for Transit Transport Policy develops draft law on St. Petersburg water transport
St. Petersburg Committee for Transit Transport Policy has developed a draft law on St. Petersburg water transport. According to PortNews IAA correspondent, the draft law was presented at a round table meeting “On water transport, development of water transportation and location of small size transport facilities in St. Petersburg” held on September 26 by St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly.
“The law is aimed at solving the problem of legal vacuum in management of inland waterways of St. Petersburg and secure management of Petersburg waterways to the city Administration,” Vladimir Romanovski, head of the Committee’s legal department told the meeting. Inland Water Transport Code of the Russian Federation covers only Neva and its four tributaries, while navigation at other rivers and canals is not regulated,” Romanovski said.
Besides the draft law the meeting discussed the master plan for development and location of small size transport facilities in St. Petersburg as well as the conception of water transportation development in St. Petersburg. All the above documents were developed by St. Petersburg Committee for Transit Transport Policy.
According to Andrei Chernykh, head of the profile committee for tourism industry of the Legislative Assembly, the draft law will be considered by the LA and is likely to be passed by the end of 2008.
